Which New Forest campsites
for the best camping experience ever?

New Forest campsite at Longbeech - enjoying the wild birds and a cuppa too!

New Forest campsites, offer camping or caravanning, right in the heart of this UK National Park. Enjoy nature, close up, and it should be an experience you'll never forget.

Where else can you pitch your tent, site your caravan and find yourself pitching up where the New Forest ponies graze just a few feet away, and deer roam really close to your tent?

Hang on to your food though and keep it safe!

The New Forest campsites I tell you about will, as usual, be based on my personal recommendation.

They are all within the UK National Park boundary. I think it is much better to experience camping when you are really close to the animals and fantastic woodland of the New Forest.

New Forest donkey this little chap is really lovely and was waiting for the pub to open!

Some of my New Forest camping information will also have a few "warts and all"
details....read on!
There are 10 New Forest Forestry Commission campsites I'm going to tell you about.
You can go into each site and make a judgement as to whether you want a no frills stay or a bit more luxury.

I think luxury is not a word that goes together with camping, but if you read the descriptions of each campsite you'll see what I mean - it's camping and so details of toilets and showers are important - they are to me!

The official campsite for the New Forest is one run by the Forestry Commission and The Camping and Caravan Club - this is called Forest Holidays

Here are the 10 sites

  • Aldridge Hill - opens 27st May 2010 to 1st June then 17th June to 9th September 2010
200 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes
  • Ashurst - camping facilities for a family holiday
    Opens 27th Mar 2010 to 27th September 2010
280 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes
  • Denny Wood - opens 25th March 2010 to 27th September 2010
170 pitches for tents, carvans and motorhomes
  • Hollands Wood - open 25th March 2010 to 27th September 2010
Winner of the Silver David Bellamy Award for Conservation
600 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes Suitable for a family holiday
  • Holmsley opens 25th March 2010 to 1st November 2010
600 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes suitable for a family holiday
  • Ocknell and Longbeech - opens 25th March 2010 to 27th September 2010
these two sites are next to each other and offer value for money camping
480 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes
  • Matley Wood - opens 25th March 2010 to 27th September 2010
This site is close to Denny Wood site and has 70 pitches only for tents, caravans and motorhomes
  • Round Hill - opens 25th March 2010 to 27th September 2010
500 pitches tents, caravans and motorhomes this campsite offers value for money
  • Setthorns - Open all year
235 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes

If you want to camp using a tent then have a look at the information on my Ready Tents page - you just have to turn up to practise camping under canvas here. The tent is already put up for you! How cool is that?

I've just added 2 new links for you to follow which I think you may enjoy, whether you are planning a holiday or just want to read and keep updated on camping and sites throughout the UK.

The first is Perfect Pitch Magazine they really do cover everything!

Here's the next one - they do reviews as well and I've just read a campsite (not in the New Forest thank heavens) described as "older than God's dog" - well worth a visit even if you only want to browse. Try Pitchup.com for yourselves. If you need to look further afield in other parts of the UK this is a great place to start searching.......
