American families visit Ibsley aerodrome

by Ray Pidgley Ex Sgt Royal Marines
(Spilsby, Lincolnshire.)

In the summer of 2009 Corporal Leroy Charles Miller's daughter Karen and her husband George visited Ibsley Aerodrome where their father was stationed during the war, and on a stall in the show they found a photograph of their father, which caused the tears to flow, but the people running the stall allowed them to take a copy of the photograph back to Cincinatti,Ohio, for their mother to see and the remainder of the family.
It made them feel so proud of their father who had passed away with cancer.
They also visited Fordingbridge, where their mother met their father before the invasion of France.
Their visit to the Schoolhouse at Godshill where their parents spent a one-night honeymoon made their trip worthwhile, especially when they visited the New Forest and spent the night with us camping at Holmsley.
They just could not wait to get back to their mother Pat, in Cincinatti with all their photographs and souveniers.
