The first New Forest foals we've seen this year.

Welcome to my Foal Gallery - I hope you enjoy my pictures of the new arrivals?
We have been really excited over the last few days - the first New Forest
foal has been born in the area we live in.
As you will see by the gallery photos he is really beautiful.
It's really important to never approach or try to touch or feed any of the New Forest ponies.
They are used to living without human contact and you will endanger yourself and also may risk a very dangerous accident happening if you do try to touch them.
Please always treat them with care and respect.. Thank you.
His poor old mums tummy was getting bigger by the day and so it looked like it might not be too long before the eventful day arrived......
What a surprise! The real give away sign was that her teats were enlarged -
a sure sign that birth was imminent - and it was.
Each day I discover another New Forest foal has been born, they are all so beautiful and very vulnerable at this new born stage.
As I discover them I'll be adding them to the New Forest foal gallery for you to enjoy with me.

This New Forest foal had spent a few days getting to grips with life in the world rather than mums tum.

This New Forest foal, once on his feet can actually scratch his ear with his little hoof!
This little chap is a real beauty.

New Forest foals grow very fast.
Here is Laddie on 1st June 2009. This lovely New Forest foal was amongst the heather with Mum munching away.
He is very keen to explore and is often seen with other members of his herd who keep an eye on him too. |
|
This New Forest foal isn't one I've seen very much - but still a lovely sight?
They are a bit like little rocking horses.
Their little manes are short and curly and so are their tails too!

This New Forest foal decided he had an itch.
This little sapling was going to solve his problem. |

New Forest foals soon become very curious about life.
This lovely New Forest foal was amongst the trees and bushes with Mum keeping an eye out for her new foal.
She's just had a good canter round trying out her long legs.

Today was an exciting day - the first New Forest foal was born. His name may be "Laddie" - what a wonderful sight to look out on, from the front of our cottage!
They always look very gangly for the first couple of days.

|
Here is another New Forest foal - probably born last night.
Still those gangly legs and in awe at the world!
I was quite surprised to see this little foal as I hadn't realised the birth was quite so close.

New Forest pony foals are usually very well protected by their Mum.
This lovely strawberry roan
New Forest pony was munching grass as fast as possible, but she was still keeping a constant eye out
for danger to her new foal.

Today was a very bright, sunny day and Laddie was making the most of the lovely weather.

This New Forest foal is so new born that it looks as though the legs will hardly be able to support the body.
Have a look at the blaze - it goes into a white zig zag down to the nose - how unusual!
It's hard to believe he isn't a day old yet.

|
This New Forest foal is quite weak at the moment.
Sometimes their legs look too bent and so after lots of good milk, plenty of rest in a few days everything should be ironed out!
