New Forest Roundhills Campsite
My review in this UK National Park.

My New Forest Roundhill campsite review will let you discover just what you can see when you decide to visit this stunning UK National Park.

New Forest Roundhills info centre antler display.

As soon as you drive into this lovely campsite with its lovely lake setting you know you are in for a treat.

The site is managed by Irene and Dave and his team, literally hours of hard work have gone into make this site a very deserving David Bellamy Gold Award 2009 winner.

The Roundhills Information Centre is a fascinating place to explore and absorb all the wildlife and history facts that Irene and Dave have put together for you.

New Forest Roundhills wlidlife puzzle.

Here is an example of Irene and Daves dedication to this site. They have taken photos of the animals around the campsite and then Dave has made them into handmade puzzles for children to play with.

There is a lovely display of Fact Books

  • Insects of the Forest - find out about a swamp spider!
  • Mushrooms will show you what a Stinkhorn looks like>
  • Birds has beautiful pictures of Goldcrests and other birds which visit the area.
  • Butterflies and Moths Purple Hairstreak are about too
  • What, when, where Log what you have seen to share with others.

New Forest Roundhills campsite nature events

As you can see there is lots of information when you stay at this beautiful New Forest campsite - and lots of it you can actually participate in! How great is that for your pitch price?

Irene and Dave really do offer so much for you here!

Apart from the wonderful antler display, as you enter then tent deer hides are hanging from the ceiling which really adds atmosphere to the tent.

All around the walls are beautifully displayed and put together boards telling you about the deer, butterflies and other animals and wildlife you are likely (or lucky enough!) to encounter during you stay.

New Forest Roundhills Countryfile visit - great fun!

This site is so great the Countryfile team recently visited and filmed a programme which went out in early May to record the stunning dawn chorus.

Here are just some of the information displays you can see:

  • True Stories discover who "Brusher" Mills was
  • New Forest pony and the Verderers facts and photos
  • New Forest Keepers who are they and how do they deal with forest fires etc
  • WW2 History -there was a wartime camp here which was linked to R.A.F.Beaulieu

New Forest Roundhills butterflies board apparently there was a cinema and gym on site, an operations block, WAAF and sick quarters with an 8 bed ward , a NAAFI and Cpls Club all lodged in wartime Nissan huts. Loads to explore here then!

Unfortunately, although the water tower still exists don't arrive expecting to take in a film - war time era or not!

  • Finally, there is a resident ghost! Bronze or iron Age soldiers are meant to wander the site on the 3rd or 4th of each month! You have been warned!

Roundhills is a beautiful New Forest campsite and my review was a joy to do.

It is a green site - once you arrive in your car there is no need for you to use it again during your stay - a bike can be delivered to your tent or caravan or ready tent and off you go.
