My grandad frank charles gritt was born in Batchley Lodge! Milford rd in 1909 His parents Thomas and Ellen Gritt my grandad moved to Liverpool Street Southampton lMy husband has brought me to the new forest this Easter weekend to see where my family lived l would really like more information and pictures if possible .My grandad went into the Army served about 14 years he lost his sight and had a shot wound in his foot so could not do any thing else ended his days in a little flat .margaret

Thomas gritt stayed with alice in Oxfordshire they had 1 son Thomas died 1943 I have his berrial record,

frank got shot in the foot saving his corpral he was at battle Dunkirk well he was landed on the wrong beach he stole farmers donkey he received boots free as they needed to be padded he went blind due to glaucommer I have photo of his army days he died in st catherines on Holderness rd hull he left a will I have the will he was a proud member of the buffs (free mason) he joined aug 1963 I have medals

I have records dating back to 1700s on the gritt side 1700s also on the kennington side if you give details I can post

frank Charles gritt is also my granddad, he was born 10 batchley lodge lymington his father was Thomas gritt born alton 1887 (his mother and father were hop picking at the time) he was a twin to Charles but he died in infancy with cleft pallet Thomas married ellen cornick 1908 at hordle they had William Alfred gritt 1912 the marrage seems to have neen a little rocky they had ivan George but he died in infancy ellen had another child called ivan George gritt but the child couldn't have been Thomas s as he was in fance in the 1st wold war,thomas was charged with bigamy in 1919 he marred alice prue he was only fined as he proved the child ivan was not his he had Thomas with alice frank was living with his grand parents
james gritt Thomas dad was a gypsey in the new forest the is a gysey caravan which belongs to Abigail thomases sister it was left which is unusual as the belongings are burnt I have photos of the grits in the new forest and have recently got picture of William gritt franks brother frank married edith mary kennington 1933 she was 3 months pregnant at the time her father was Thomas Alfred kennington a lay preacher her mother zilpha died in 1913 Thomas kennington married annie bassett
