I am an experienced rider. I love the horses more than just 'riding ' Would really enjoy having the chance to help. I truly understand why this must be done.
I live in Southampton but I am not a local. If someone is needed then I would love to be that person, hoping you might advise me.
Many warm regards,
Helen
Hi Helen
That's a really kind offer and as a fellow horse/pony/equine lover too I can understand your wish to help.
The New Forest is quite heavily regulated as every animal (apart from deer) are owned by a Commoner. It is our responsibility to look after our individual animals at all times so it is hard to think of a way in which your offer of help could be used.
If your question relates specifically to the Drift or pony round up this is restricted to active commoners only as it's a very dangerous but vital part of the New Forest management of animals scheme. It's dangerous to both riders and animals and a knowledge and understanding of both the terrain and each animal is needed.
Thank you so much again for your kind offer -you could also contact the Verderers office and run your offer of help to them too.
Kind regards
Christina
